Hur Dongsoo, President of the Korean Society of Ocean Engineers (KSOE)

Greetings,
I’d like to extend my warmest welcome to all of you visiting the website of the Korean Society of Ocean Engineers.

KSOE has grown into a domestically and internationally renowned academic society representing ocean-related fields, thanks to the dedication and service of past presidents and executives as well as the activities and support of its members.

KSOE was established in 1986 with the aim of contributing to national development and to the interests of society in promoting improvement of engineering and technology related to the development and production of ocean resources, in accordance with the Act on the Establishment and Operation of Public Interest Corporations. Ocean engineering requires a convergence of multiple disciplines in the field of engineering and others including, but not limited to, shipbuilding, oceanography, civil

engineering, machinery, materials, energy, and electricity. KSOE has been at the forefront of ocean engineering at home and abroad, demonstrating the excellence of Korea’s ocean engineering technology through academic activities, international exchanges, and more.
Korea’s marine engineering industry has gained global recognition for its formidable technological prowess, and has established itself as a key national industry. This remarkable industrial growth achieved in such a short period of time was possible due to excellent education and training and technological development. KSOE, in particular, has contributed to this by presenting a wide range of platforms for members to introduce cutting-edge technologies from relevant fields, presenting and publishing their latest research findings, and engaging in various exchange enterprises.

It is believed that the ocean will power the industries of the future. In light of this, KSOE, which plays a significant role in the development of engineering knowledge and technology required for new industries involving the development of marine resources, use of marine spaces, marine energy, and marine logistics, will continue to strive to achieve growth by working closely with experts from industrial, academic, and research sectors. I hope you find useful information on our website and share your thoughts and opinions with others. I also ask for your active participation, continued interest, and unwavering support.

Thank you.
